- Lepisma saccharina: known as the ‟common silverfish”, can be found near moisture in the lower floors of your home. They thrive in high humidity and temperatures 70 to 80-degree Fahrenheit. They can often be found in basements and crawl spaces. They are generally a silver color because of their shiny, metallic scales. The common silverfish prefers a high protein diet.
- Ctenolepisma longicaudata: known as the ‟gray silverfish”, moves around the entire house. They are found in areas that have light foot traffic, basements, attics, closets and storage spaces. It’s no coincidence that many books and papers are stored in these spaces. These silverfish are dullish-gray. They thrive in hotter environments between 80 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. - Ctenollepisma quadriseriata: known as the ‟four-lined silverfish” are tannish-gray in color and has four lines of black scales running down its back.
